Ugggh I've had this terrible eye pain today, well actually more of a discomfort really. I'm not sure if it's an eye strain or just a strange sinus related headache. It's just in my left eye and just really annoying me all day. Whenever I look anywhere but straight.

Maybe I just need to get a better night sleep, for once. I tossed and turned all night, lots of things on my mind I guess, and couldn't quite get into REM sleep and woke up with the eye pain this morning. If that doesn't work, well I guess time to talk to the eye doctor. I have to go this week to pick up my first pair of new glasses in close to 10 years, and they also have to dialte my pupils. Never had that before, but it sounds like fun!

PS: Happy Halloween!

I saw this news today, and I found it very interesting. Here's a snippet of the article text from the digg.com story.

"Selling 1 million videos in less than 20 days strongly suggests there is a market for legal video downloads," Steve Jobs, chief executive officer, said in a statement. "Our next challenge is to broaden our content offerings, so that customers can enjoy watching more videos on their computers and new iPods."

I think the sale of TV shows over the iTunes music store is the start of something bigger for the movie and television industry. It'll be met with a lot of resistance at first, just like the original iTunes store it'll eventually get the companies to work with them better. Having this ability is something that people want, and if Apple continues to innovate in this sector I bet we'll see movies downloadable by next year.

I appears that I may have won an Xbox 360 from Mountain Dew's Every10Minutes contest.

Here is the Winners Board image from this morning.

(Click for a larger screenshot)

I entered a good amount of codes, around 200 total, into the 6:10 AM drawing and also happen to live in Carpentersville. Plus the fact that I also put it in upper case in my user profile. So I'd say the chances are pretty high that it was me that won the contest.

According to The Digital Bits it looks like Universal is aiming to get Serenity out on DVD right before Christmas. I personally think this is a good move because it'll make a great Christmas gift for Sci-Fi fans everywhere. I'd hope to see more features on the disc, but I'm sure they'll continue the trend of basic disc at first and then a special edition set later. Either way, I think it's good for the movie to be out on DVD before Christmas.

Our ever reliable industry sources are telling us that Universal will soon announce the DVD release of Joss Whedon's Serenity for 12/20. Early word indicates that the disc may include Whedon audio commentary, along with at least 4 behind-the-scenes featurettes (Future History, We'll Have a Fruity Oaty Good Time, Re-Lighting the Firefly and What's in a Firefly), a video introduction to the film by Whedon and 6 minutes worth of outtakes. Some of the details on the extras comes from the BBFC website (click the link and hit enter). We'll post more as it comes in.

Someone has done some investigation to something he suspected in 2003, that the Cubs actually won the NLCS in 2003 and should have gone onto the World Series. Interesting, but sadly has no official merit because this would have had to been caught during the game to make a difference.

Popular Sci-Fi writer Orson Scott Card, the author of the great book Enders Game, has a very positive review of the movie Serenity. Here's a few snippets of the review, click the links below to read the man's lengthy review. Including his thoughts of his project to get Enders Game made into a movie.

I walked into this movie reasonably aware of the advance
word-of-mouth (though not obsessively so) and only as the film
actually began this afternoon, the day of its premier, did it occur to
me that I had not heard a whisper of a breath of the actual plot of
the movie. All I heard was, "It's great, you'll love it." Well, guess
what. It's great. I'm not going to say it's the best science fiction
movie, ever. Oh, wait. Yes I am.

This is the kind of movie that I have always intended Ender's Game to
be (though the plots are not at all similar). And this is as good a
movie as I always hoped Ender's Game would be. And I'll tell you this
right now: If Ender's Game can't be this kind of movie, and this good
a movie, then I want it never to be made. I'd rather just watch
Serenity again.

I just saw this on digg, I'm making my order tonight to help see if we can't get it to #1. This is pretty huge considering all the other hardcore fans all bought the DVDs already, so unless they are gifting a lot of them these are all new purchases!

After being in the top 20 for nearly 2 years, Firely: The Complete Series has moved up to the #2 slot with the release of Serenity.

I have found Serenity, the movie, not the state of mind of which stress and anxiety doesn't exist. I'm still searching for that, Serenity the movie set 500 years in the future where we have abandoned Earth and found a new solar system and a new Alliance was formed in this new solar system. The movie follows a bunch of independants, not on the side of the Alliance, who are struggling to survive in their ship named Serenity.

The movie actually takes place after the abrupt end of the short-lived TV series Firefly. But not knowing that show wont hamper your ability to enjoy this movie. But seeing the movie may make you go out and buy the movie to see more adventures and stories of the wonderful crew of Serenity.

Here is the IMDB synopsis on the film:

The crew of Serenity takes on any job that will pay, even if it's not exactly legal. Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), the captain, was on the losing side of a galactic war, and now all he has is his ship, named Serenity, and his loyal crew: his second in command and most trusted ally, Zoe (Gina Torres), her husband, the pilot, Wash (Alan Tudyk), the mechanic, Kaylee (Jewel Staite), and the muscle, Jayne (Adam Baldwin). When Malcolm takes on two new passengers, a young doctor, Simon Tam ('Sean Maher' ) and his unstable, telepathic sister River (Summer Glau) he gets much more than he bargained for. The two are fugitives from The Alliance, the conglomerate that controls the galaxy. River learned something no one was ever supposed to know... and The Alliance will do anything to make sure no one will. Morena Baccarin, Ron Glass, and Chiwetel Ejiofor also star.

I few of my friends and I all went to go see Serenity on Saturday, and we were all floored by the movie. The theatre was filled with clapping as the movie ended, and it's the first time I've seen this happen in a theatre in such a long time. I recommonded anyone who wants to see a good movie set in the not-to-distant future that is filled with action, adventure, humor and even some raw emotion should go out and see this movie so maybe we can see some more.
